Case Study: House Relocation in Nairobi – A Family's Moving Story with Dial and Move Kenya
Every house move has its own unique story. In this detailed case study, we share the real experience of a Nairobi family who trusted Dial and Move Kenya with their home relocation — from the first call to the final box unpacked. This story illustrates how our house movers Nairobi team turns what could be a stressful experience into a smooth, positive transition.
Meet the Waweru Family
The Waweru family — a couple with three children aged 5, 9, and 13 — had lived in their 4-bedroom home in South B for 8 years. After a job promotion, Mr. Waweru needed to relocate the family to a new home in Runda to be closer to his new workplace. The move involved 8 years of accumulated belongings, a large garden furniture set, a home office, three children's bedrooms, and a kitchen full of appliances.
The Challenge
The Waweru family faced several moving challenges. They had a large volume of items accumulated over 8 years. The children were anxious about leaving their familiar home and school. The new Runda home had a narrow driveway that limited truck access. Mrs. Waweru had a collection of fragile ceramic artwork that she was particularly worried about. And the family needed to be fully settled before the school term started in 10 days.
Our Solution
Day 1: Pre-Move Survey
Our senior coordinator visited the South B home to conduct a full inventory. We identified 340 items to be moved, including 12 fragile ceramic artworks, a large garden furniture set, a home office with a desktop computer and printer, and three children's bedrooms with bunk beds and toy collections. We provided a detailed moving quote and recommended our Premium Full-Service Package. As affordable movers Nairobi families trust, our quote was competitive and fully transparent.
Day 2: Packing Day
Our team of 6 specialist packers arrived at 8 AM. The ceramic artworks were individually wrapped in acid-free tissue paper, bubble wrap, and custom foam inserts. The children were involved in packing their own toy boxes — a technique our team uses to help children feel ownership over the move. By 6 PM, the entire home was packed in 180 labeled boxes, organized by room and category.
Day 3: Moving Day
Our crew of 8 movers and 2 trucks arrived at 7 AM. Large furniture was disassembled where necessary. The garden furniture was wrapped and loaded carefully. By 11 AM, both trucks were fully loaded. We navigated the narrow Runda driveway using our smaller truck for the final delivery approach. By 4 PM, all items were unloaded at the new home.
Day 4: Unpacking and Setup
Our team returned the following morning to unpack and set up the home. We prioritized the children's bedrooms first, reassembling bunk beds and arranging toys so the children could settle in immediately. The ceramic artworks were unwrapped and positioned as directed by Mrs. Waweru. By 3 PM, the entire home was unpacked, furniture was arranged, and all packing debris was removed.
The Result
The Waweru family was fully settled in their new Runda home within 4 days — 6 days ahead of the school term start. All 12 ceramic artworks arrived without a single crack. The children adapted quickly to their new rooms, which had been set up to feel familiar and welcoming. Mr. Waweru described the move as "the best decision we ever made" — referring both to the new home and to choosing Dial and Move Kenya.
"Dial and Move Kenya didn't just move our belongings — they moved our family with care and sensitivity. The way they involved our children in the process was brilliant. We are so grateful." — Mrs. Waweru, Runda.
